LEADERSHIP LEARNING MODULE

Individual

Self-Awareness: character development, personal integrity and courage; clarifying individual values, personality, leadership and learning styles

Critical Thinking: critiquing, analyzing, problem solving, and thinking with complexity, depth and creativity; reflectively applying theory to practice

Communication: written, verbal and non-verbal communication; including listening, reading, editing, presenting, and media relation skills

Discipline Knowledge: knowledge of a scholarly/creative discipline; ability to apply core competencies, research and theory to professional practice

Visioning/Goal Setting: challenging the process to create a visionary picture of the future; setting stretch and smart goals to reach that vision

In Partnerships

Relationship Building: developing trust, respect and empathy; encouraging the heart and modeling the way for others; creating and expecting accountability

Diversity: understanding and recognition of multiple layers of identity including but not limited to: race, gender, religion, ability, socioeconomic class, and sexual orientation; a multicultural approach to appreciate, encourage, and develop diverse voices, values and perspectives

Influence and Power: understanding different types of power, authority, influence, and oppression; taking leadership initiative to empower others

Ethics: understanding and application of philosophical and ethical theory; congruency and accountability through shared ethical codes

Organization Development: organization, leadership and change theory and application; knowing and using organization and management skills

Conflict Management: ability to resolve conflict; initiate and manage healthy confrontation and controversy; ability to provide effective feedback

Decision Making/Negotiation: ability to clarify a position, frame a persuasive argument, select appropriate decision making model, and take action; research, develop and voice evidence for personal perspective

In Community

Systems Thinking: recognizing and analyzing the complex interaction of structural, technical, political and personnel issues; ability to see and understand the big picture; integrating multiple levels of perspective within diverse contexts and situations

Social Change: understanding and responding to historical, political, economic, and social justice issues; inclusive dialogue and coalition building to initiate change within the community and broader society/world
